Education in Style: Capturing Fresh Starts at the Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation Fashion Show
Melanie and I had the honor of covering the Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation’s “Education is Always in Style” event, and what a night it was. Held at the elegant DuPont Country Club, this evening was more than a celebration of fashion—it was a showcase of resilience, transformation, and the power of new beginnings for so many inspiring women.
Setting the Stage
We arrived early to capture the calm before the excitement. The ballroom, meticulously arranged with a runway and chic décor, awaited its guests. Registration tables were lined with smiling volunteers, ready to welcome the attendees. This peaceful prelude gave us time to photograph the setup and feel the energy slowly building.
Once the models arrived, the atmosphere shifted. Melanie and I split up to capture the flurry of behind-the-scenes moments. From final touches in makeup to bursts of laughter and last-minute pep talks from mentors, every candid shot seemed to tell its own story.
Fashion Meets Confidence
As the fashion show began, it was clear this was no ordinary runway. Each model—wearing pieces from boutiques like Chico’s, Lane Bryant, and JMcLaughlin—walked with a unique confidence that radiated beyond the clothes. Through our lenses, we aimed to highlight not just the styles on display, but the strength and personal growth behind every step.
The evening was elevated even further with a performance by Olivia Rubini, whose soulful voice brought the crowd to its feet. The collective energy in the room was palpable, as if every attendee was part of a shared journey.

The event wrapped up with the raffle drawings by Mary and heartfelt thank-yous from Lisa-Marie, the perfect notes to end a night full of purpose.
